The Indonesian experimental band Senyawa performs live in the Hammer's courtyard. Incorporating homemade instruments and deft vocal explorations, the duo comprised of Rully Shabara and Wukir Suryadi creates compositions that embody elements of traditional Indonesian music, free jazz, noise, and heavy metal.

Biography

Senyawa (founded 2010, Yogyakarta, Indonesia) is an experimental band from Indonesia comprised of Rully Shabara and Wukir Suryadi. Incorporating homemade instruments and deft vocal explorations, the duo creates compositions that embody elements of traditional Indonesian music, free jazz, noise, and heavy metal. Senyawa has performed at venues and festivals worldwide, including MONA FOMA Festival in Tasmania (2015). In 2018, a selection of their original compositions appeared on the soundtrack of the blockbuster videogame Red Dead Redemption 2. In 2021, in an act of “decentralized” distribution, Senyawa released the album Alkisah through over forty international record labels simultaneously.
