Inside Out with Mindy Kaling and Jonas Rivera
- This is a past program
Pixar’s 15th computer-animated feature is its smartest and most original since the company merged with Disney a decade ago. The characters of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust carry out an existential rescue mission in the mind of a rural teenager struggling with the alienating effects of a big city move. Another of the studio’s exceptionally well-cast vocal ensembles delivers a mix of quick-witted comedy and family values that has cross-generational appeal. The film’s modernist landscapes of the mind are richly imagined; in particular "abstract thought" and "memory dump," which are the stuff from which lasting memories of childhood movie-going are made. With Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, Phyllis Smith, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, Kaitlyn Dias, Richard Kind.
A Q&A with actor Mindy Kaling and producer Jonas Rivera follows the screening, moderated by KPCC FilmWeek critic Claudia Puig.
