Graduate mentor alea adigweme and undergraduate mentor Lucia Santina Ribisi, both participants in the Hammer Museum’s Art + Activism: A Collaborative Learning Project, share their experiences in fostering artist communities and challenging institutional hierarchies.

This summer, the Hammer’s Academic Programs department launched Art + Activism: A Collaborative Learning Project, a multi-generational mentorship pilot program that brought together a group of high school students, UCLA undergraduates, and MFA students to explore the intersections of art and activism. As a part of her fellowship, Emerging Museum Education Fellow Julianna Swilley implemented a program that encouraged students to explore the intersection of art and storytelling.
