In this remarkable recording of a performance by Victoria Santa Cruz, we follow the curve of identification traced by a character (a woman) in relation to the color of her skin. As a girl she experienced discrimination because of her skin color, but she later embraced it as a source of pride. The performance addresses the black presence in South America, which is often denied and devalued. By forcefully uttering the words "¿Y qué?" (So what?) to the rhythm of clapping hands, which also sets her body in motion, Santa Cruz constructs a powerful metaphor for emancipation.
