Caixa de fazer amor (Lovemaking box) , 1967

Teresinha Soares's work combines a free celebration of the erotic and the feminine with a critique of the repressive policies of the Brazilian dictatorship (1964–85) and of the oppression of women in patriarchal society. Her Caixa de fazer amor is an assemblage in pop art colors. In its original conception the viewer would interact with the work by turning a handle connected to a windmill that, when spun, would set in motion a large red plush heart inside the box; the heart's playful and overblown motion imitated the way a heart beats when one is in love. Another heart—this one split though with the potential to be joined—was formed in the upper part of the box by two faces almost touching each other. Both comic and celebratory, this work speaks of the tribulations of love and desire.

Teresinha Soares es una artista en cuya obra confluye una celebración libre de lo erótico y lo femenino, aunada a una crítica a la represión durante el régimen dictatorial de Brasil (1964-1985) y de la opresión de la mujer en la sociedad patriarcal. Su obra Caixa de fazer amor (caja de hacer al amor) es un ensamblaje de colores pop, concebido originalmente para que el espectador participara haciendo girar una manilla. La manilla está conectada a un molinillo que al rotar pone en marcha un gran corazón de peluche rojo dentro de la caja, emulando de forma exagerada y lúdica la idea de la palpitación de un corazón cuando está enamorado. Haciendo eco de este corazón, en la parte superior de la caja, aparecen dos rostros que casi se tocan y que juntos forman otro corazón fragmentado a la vez que potencialmente unido. Esta obra habla de las tribulaciones del amor y el deseo de forma humorística y festiva.
