Autorretrato is a key piece in the oeuvre of the Paraguayan artist Margarita Morselli. In it, we see the artist from behind as she climbs a wide staircase time and again. The angle of the camera filming her changes subtly, rather than jarringly, to convey a sense of repetition and monotony. The soundtrack combines the sounds of the city (car horns, the noise of helicopters and of trains) and of nature to form a second register that ties the work to the aggression and violence of the city during the years of the dictatorship in Paraguay (1954–89).

Autorretrato es una pieza central en la obra de la artista paraguaya Margarita Morselli. Aquí vemos a la artista, siempre de espaldas, subiendo, una y otra vez, una amplia escalera. La cámara la toma siempre desde ángulos distintos, pero no necesariamente contrastados, lo que evita los sobresaltos y transmite, por el contrario, la sensación de repetición y monotonía. El sonido compacta ruidos urbanos (bocinas, sonidos de helicópteros y trenes) y de la naturaleza imprimiendo un segundo registro que vincula a la obra con instantes de agresión y violencia de la ciudad, en años en los que Paraguay estaba bajo dictadura (1954–89).
