Eco Hardware: Building a Better Tomorrow, One Recycle at a Time with Lan Tuazon, Precious Plastic, 1 Plastic Life, & Richard Wilks

  • to This is a past program

Inspired by the Appropriate Technology movement of the 1970s, Breath(e) artist Lan Tuazon explores the movement's continuation today through open-source technologies, DIY, and grassroots environmental actions. In this workshop, Tuazon will join artist Richard Wilks, and environmental organizers Marcus Rosenthal (Precious Plastic) and Armando 'Mondo' Ochoa (1plasticlife) to demonstrate how they are building communities to tackle the global plastic pollution crisis.

This workshop will present four perspectives on plastics and the circular economy, showcase material samples, operate Precious Plastic machines, and issue a call to action. Join us in building the collective force we need to retool our future and build climate resiliency. This two part workshop begins with a lecture at 1 PM, with a hands-on workshop at 2 PM. Please participate in the circular economy and bring your plastics #5 and CRV containers to the event. All are welcome.

Recycle your plastics at the Hammer

Bring your ♷ plastic containers (PP: polypropylene for food related containers) and CRV (California Redemption Value on plastic, glass, and aluminum cans).

  •  Check the bottom of the container for the ♴ (detergents) or ♷ (food containers)*
  • Clean, remove labels, and drop off containers in the project’s designated sorting bins.
  • ♷ PP: polypropylene will be shredded and reconfigured into future works by the artist.
  • CRV containers are collected for 1plasticlife and aid in their efforts in reducing plastic pollution while working in low-income and unhoused communities. Donations to 1plasticlife would further support their recycling program to expand within Los Angeles Unified District Schools.

*If your item does not have ♴ or ♷ but is a traditional recyclable—such as bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard—please deposit within one of the museum’s general recycling bins.
