Hammer Highlights 2015: Exhibition Publications

The Hammer Museum has a long publication history and this past year was particularly active. Since 1990 we have published over 50 catalogues, with the most recent six produced between September 2014 and October 2015. Many people ask us how we determine when to publish a book. Our curatorial team considers a number of factors, such as scope of the exhibition, availability of current scholarship on the subject, exhibition budget and schedule.

Over the last year, we’ve had a variety of interesting and new challenges in our exhibition installations.

On View at the Café: Victoria Fu

Interested in the relationship of the body to technology, Victoria Fu creates videos that evoke a sense of tactility. A disembodied hand peels back and paints over layers of imagery that seem unending. In filming her videos, Fu digitally composites surfaces and objects from the studio with virtual spaces, turning a solid body into a portal.

Hammer Highlights 2015: Visitor Experience

Hammer Highlights is a blog series that features the past year's most memorable moments and stories from each of our departments.

2015 was a banner year for the Visitor Experience (VE) department. From putting a sticker on Beyonce’s hand to wielding an atomic bomb piñata, there was a profusion of memorable moments.

#GivingTuesday

Today is Giving Tuesday and time to consider thanking the institutions that enrich your lives by sending them a donation. If you have ever had the urge to express your appreciation to the Hammer, this is the moment to do so! No amount is too small—just say thank you with whatever you can afford.
