Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley I. Talpis

Fred Grunwald's daughter, Lotte Talpis, and her husband, Stanley, shared Fred Grunwald's love of prints. Between 1954, when Fred Grunwald was still alive, and 1986, the date of their final gifts, almost 1,000 works were donated to the Grunwald Collection by the Talpises or by Fred Grunwald in their name. Strengths of this collection include more than 350 works by twentieth-century American artists and more than 150 works by German artists of the early 20th century, including Max Pechstein (1881–1955), Gabriele Münter (1877–1962), and Georg Schrimpf (1889–1938).
