Where are They Now? Dr. Pozzi at The Huntington

– By Leslie Cozzi, curatorial associate, Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts

Almost two years ago I wrote a blog post about John Singer Sargent’s magisterial portrait of a Parisian gynecologist—often referred to as Dr. Pozzi at Home due to the relative undress suggested by the subject’s slippers and red velvet robe—coming proverbially home to a new permanent gallery installation at the Hammer Museum.

Would-be viewers will have to leave their calling cards, because Dr. Pozzi is out again, this time visiting with friends at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens. Despite this change of scene, he still seems quite at home (yes, pun intended…again) in his damask-walled surroundings. Fourteen other works from the Hammer Collection will also be on view in Van Gogh & Friends: Masterpieces of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism from the Hammer Museum at the Huntington through January 2, 2017.
