The Hero Avenges: An Evening with Akinsanya Kambon
Artist Akinsanya Kambon creates sculptures such as vessels, figures, and wall plaques that weave together narratives of the Black diaspora, encompassing African histories, mythologies, and stories of violence and revolution. Kambon was awarded the $100,000 Mohn Award following the Hammer’s Made in L.A.: Acts of Living exhibition in 2023, resulting in the publication of his first monograph, Akinsanya Kambon: The Hero Avenges. Join us for an evening celebrating the artist and his work, featuring a conversation between Kambon and Hammer curator Pablo José Ramírez, the premiere of a new eponymous documentary directed by Gabriel Noguez and Sean Rowry, and a book signing.
