Brigitte Caland & Aram Moshayedi on Huguette Caland
On the occasion of the exhibition Huguette Caland: A Life in a Few Lines, independent curator Aram Moshayedi speaks to Brigitte Caland, who has managed the estate of her mother Huguette Caland since the artist’s death in 2019. Drawing on personal memories of life in Beirut, Paris, and California, the conversation will explore Caland’s singular artistic vision and a career that spanned decades and continents.
Bio
With a Master in Art Criticism and Curatorial Studies and a PhD in Languages and Civilizations, Brigitte Caland has managed the estate of her mother Huguette Caland since 2005. She has curated and co-curated several exhibitions of her mother’s work. Her book Writing in the Work of Huguette Caland (Kaph Books) was published in 2025. Dr Caland has taught at the Arabic and Near Eastern languages department at the American University of Beirut as well as the University Saint Joseph, Beirut. She is also a trained chef interested in food history, who published her first book, Promenades culinaires (Les trois colonnes, 2020) on the evolution of culinary traditions in the Near East.
ATTENDING THIS PROGRAM?
Ticketing: Admission is free. Your seat will be assigned to you when you pick up your ticket at the box office. Seats are assigned on a first come, first served basis, limit one per visitor. Box office opens one hour before the event.
Member Benefit: Subject to availability, Hammer Members can choose their preferred seats at the box office and pick up tickets for one additional guest. Members receive priority ticketing until 15 minutes before the program. Learn more about membership.
Parking: Self-parking is available under the museum. Rates are $9 for the first three hours with museum validation, and $3 for each additional 20 minutes, with a $30 daily maximum. There is a $9 flat rate after 5 p.m. on weekdays, and all day on weekends.
