JazzPOP
Program Series

JazzPOP 2017

JazzPOP, the Hammer’s “reliably excellent” (Los Angeles Times) creative jazz festival, celebrates its 12th season this summer, with three concerts featuring Southern California bass players who lead their bands from the bottom up. Expect deep grooves, free jazz explosions, and music drawing from influences as diverse as vintage L.A. punk, acoustic blues, bebop, and Puerto Rican folk music. Curated by San Francisco Bay Area bassist Lisa Mezzacappa.

JazzPOP: Roberto Miranda Quartet

In this rare outing as bandleader, Miranda features his own music for quartet—snakey bebop melodies and blues riffs nested in a weightlessly grooving rhythm section.
