Bay Area trumpeter and composer Darren Johnston makes music that is irresistibly energetic, lyrical, and soulful. Johnston’s band, which includes West Coast musical treasure Ben Goldberg on clarinet, is extravagantly accomplished and navigates his tricky musical structures with an effortless fluidity and improvisational prowess.
JazzPOP celebrates its fifth year of free outdoor concerts on Thursdays in August in the Hammer courtyard. Curated by San Francisco Bay Area bassist Lisa Mezzacappa.KJAZZ 81.1 FM is the official media sponsor for the series.
