JazzPOP: Nicole Mitchell

  • to This is a past program

"The most important jazz flutist of her generation…an innovative composer, magnanimous band leader and compelling soloist." —All About Jazz

Flutist, composer, and bandleader Nicole Mitchell has attracted attention in recent years for her ambitious, fresh ensemble writing as much as for her “technically crisp, melodically imaginative and profoundly heartfelt playing” (All About Jazz). She brings her new Chicago-meets-New York trio, including stellar Cuban drummer Dafnis Prieto, to the Hammer for an intimate set showcasing her warm flute tone and ethereal vocalizations.

Public programs are made possible, in part, by a major gift from Ann and Jerry Moss.

Additional support is provided by Bronya and Andrew Galef, Good Works Foundation and Laura Donnelly, an anonymous donor, the Hammer Programs Committee, and Susan and Leonard Nimoy.
