Gala in the Garden 2017: A First Look

– By Arielle Feldman, digital communications manager

The Hammer Museum’s courtyard was transformed this evening for our 15th annual Gala in the Garden, honoring celebrated filmmaker Ava DuVernay and award-winning writer Hilton Als with tribute speeches by writer, producer, and director J.J. Abrams and author Maggie Nelson. Event co-chairs included Jenni, Maggie, and Saree Kayne, Jessica Lange, Bottega Veneta creative director Tomas Maier, and Zachary Quinto.

Tonight we welcomed cultural and civic leaders, artists, collectors, patrons of the arts, and entertainment world notables. Chef Suzanne Goin of Lucques once again created the menu with a tequila pairing by Tequila Casa Dragones Joven. The evening was capped with a performance by Grammy-nominated band HAIM. Returning for the fifth year, Bottega Veneta partnered with the Hammer Museum to present this year’s Gala in the Garden, celebrating both artists and creative expression in Los Angeles.
