Birds in Paradise

This screening of Jacolby Satterwhite’s Birds in Paradise is presented as a prelude to the artist’s evening lecture.

“[Jacolby Satterwhite’s] Birds in Paradise collection is a six-part video installation series that includes Birds in Paradise, Moments of Silence, Blessed Avenue, Avenue B, We Are In Hell When We Hurt Each Other, and Shrines. Every song from the concept album Love Will Find A Way Home is articulated and housed into these films as Satterwhite worked on these projects in tandem to create an archipelago of sculptural production. Satterwhite’s conceptualizing of the ways that sound can be aligned with imagery is a tool used to immerse the viewer in a tangible, nearly tactile world. Beyond the films, in his C-prints, sculptures, and photography of the series, Satterwhite has extracted stills from these labyrinthine visuals to allow the viewer to savor and linger on moments.”
