The 89-year-old director Agnès Varda, a leading figure of the French New Wave, travels the villages of France with 33-year-old JR, an acclaimed photographer and muralist, producing and installing epic portraits of locals they meet along the way. An exploration of artistic vision and Varda’s enduring legacy, the “magnificently moving, funny, and altogether wonderful” (Indiewire) documentary received the Toronto Film Festival’s Peoples Choice award and the Golden Eye Prize at Cannes. (2017, dir. Agnès Varda and JR, 89 min.)
