Hans Ulrich Obrist and Connie Butler

  • This is a past program

Curator, critic, and art historian Hans Ulrich Obrist joins Hammer chief curator Connie Butler in a discussion on the work of Marisa Merz. Butler and Ulrich Obrist discuss current issues in the contemporary art world including the art market and undervalued artists, making exhibitions that change art history, and finding new artists in a globalized contemporary art field.

Obrist is artistic director of the Serpentine Galleries, London. A prolific documentarian, he has recorded nearly 2,000 hours of interviews with cultural figures including Ai Weiwei, Zaha Hadid, and John Baldessari as part of the Interview Project. His recently published books include A Brief History of Curating and Ways of Curating.

All Hammer public programs are free and made possible by a major gift from an anonymous donor.

Generous support is also provided by Susan Bay Nimoy and Leonard Nimoy, Good Works Foundation and Laura Donnelley, an anonymous donor, The Samuel Goldwyn Foundation, and all Hammer members.

The Hammer’s digital presentation of its public programs is made possible by the Billy and Audrey L. Wilder Foundation.
