Music of India Ensemble

The Music of India Ensemble performs short compositions of North Indian classical and semi-classical ragas (harmonic modes) and talas (rhythmic patterns on tabla). The ensemble is comprised of the students of Shujaat Khan on vocals and sitar and the students of Abhiman Kaushal on tabla.

Members of the UCLA Near East Ensemble present music from the Arab world, particularly from Eastern Mediterranean cities such as Cairo, Damascus, and Beirut. Selections include court music from the Ottoman era, Sufi-related works, modal improvisations, as well as nightclub pieces and folk songs.
