  • This is a past program
With a screening of the documentary Expedition Linnaeus

An evening on the subject of sustainable development, dedicated to the memory of Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus. Professor Thomas Elmqvist begins the evening with a lecture on sustainable cities in a changing world. He is joined by UNESCO representative Christine Alfsen, Kitty Connolly of the Huntington Botanical Gardens, UCLA Professor Jared Diamond, author of Collapse, and other guests to engage the audience on the legacy of Linnaeus and the challenges facing the planet. The discussion is followed by the US premiere of Mattias Klum’s new documentary.

Beyond Blond is a month-long, city-wide celebration of Swedish Culture and industry. This year’s theme—ResponsAbility—addresses Sweden’s contributions to our understanding of the natural world, and explores the challenges inherent in reconciling the needs of a burgeoning human population with the growing global environmental crisis.

Sponsored by the Consulate General of Sweden in Los Angeles. For more information, please visit www.beyondblond.org.
