Tue-Sat - 11am-1:30pm & 3:30-6pm
Sun - 11am-1:30pm & 3:30-5pm

11:45 - 1:00 - Sand Mandala
1:00 - Lunch
2:00 or 2:30 - Resume Sand Mandala
6:00 or 6:15 - Evening Closing Practice*

The Hammer Museum, in partnership with Ari Bhöd — the American Foundation for Tibetan Cultural Preservation — is pleased to present The Mandala Project. This two-week program will feature the construction of a Tibetan sand mandala by a team of traditionally trained Lamas visiting Los Angeles from the Thubten Choeling

A.I.R. Presents a Surprise Happy Birthday!

A.I.R. (artist in residence) Machine Project offers Hammer staff the opportunity to sign up for surprise live birthday performances. This performance was by musician Corey Fogel for Hammer public programs director Claudia Bestor.

Festival of New Music in the Little William Theater
The Festival of New Music comprises four resident ensembles, 96 composers, 350+ new works, and over 400 concerts inside a coatroom, under the stairs in the lobby of the Hammer Museum. All works have been commissioned for this festival and are under two minutes in length. Concerts are every Saturday from August through November, from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the Hammer. This festival is curated by Chris Kallmyer.

This week the clarinet duo, James Sullivan and Brian Walsh, will play new compositions commissioned especially for the festival.

Hammer Museum Offers Free Admission on Smithsonian Magazine’s 6th Annual Museum Day

On Saturday, September 25, 2010, the Hammer Museum will participate in the sixth annual Museum Day, presented by Toyota on behalf of the redesigned 2011 Avalon. The Hammer will join 1,300 participating museums and cultural institutions nationwide to open their doors free of charge to all visitors who download the Museum Day Ticket from Smithsonian.com.

The Museum Day Ticket is available to download at www.smithsonian.com/museumday . Visitors who present the official pass will gain free admission for two people to participating museums and cultural venues. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address. Listings and links to participating museums’ and sponsors’ sites can be found at www.smithsonian.com/museumday .
