The 83 gifts to the Grunwald Center by Fred Grunwald's son, Ernest, and his wife, Esther, include nineteenth- and twentieth-century works by important German artists, including Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880–1938), Emil Nolde (1867–1956), and George Grosz (1893–1959) as well as works by Italian artists including Luigi Bartolini (1892–1963), Massimo Campigli (1895–1971), and Giorgio de Chirico (1888–1978).
