Family Visits

The Hammer is dedicated to providing families with a comfortable and engaging experience for all ages. Below is information on our family-friendly amenities. Weekly family programs and exhibition-related activities are also available to enhance your visit.

Strollers and Bags
Strollers are welcome at the Hammer. You may also bring a diaper bag and front baby carrier into the museum. For safety reasons, backpacks are not permitted. Backpacks and other large carriers may be left at the museum’s Coat Check, located at the Welcome Desk.

Diaper Changing Stations

The restrooms on the Courtyard and Gallery Levels are equipped with diaper changing stations.

Take a Break!

When available, enjoy table tennis with the family on the Hammer’s Sound Piece for the Hammer Museum by Machine Project, currently located by AMMO at the Hammer. Younger children may enjoy playing with building blocks, created by architecture firm Marmol Radziner, located outside the Hammer Store. Feel free to sit and rest in our courtyard or on various benches located around the gallery level.

Accessibility

All of us at the Hammer want to help you make the most of your visit. If you have any special needs, please call Visitor Experience at 310-209-7912 during museum hours.

All of the museum’s public galleries are accessible to wheelchair users and other visitors who cannot use stairs. Two wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Welcome Desk. In addition, handicapped parking spaces are located on Levels P1, P2, and P3 of the museum’s parking garage.

Assistive Listening Devices
The museum offers assistive listening devices for lectures and other programs. These can be picked up at Billy Wilder Box Office; please call 310-209-7912 in advance so that we can ensure availability.

Shuttle Drop-off
If using a shuttle or motor coach, we recommend dropping off and picking up at the Lindbrook entrance, located on the north side of the Museum between Westwood Blvd. and Glendon Ave.
