Based on director Dee Rees’s award-winning short film, Pariah tells the story of Alike, a 17-year-old African-American woman who is beginning to explore her identity as a lesbian. Surrounded by a boisterous best friend and disapproving parents, Alike strives to get through adolescence with grace, humor, and tenacity. Followed by a discussion with writers Ernest Hardy and Tisa Bryant. (2011, dir. Dee Rees, 87 min.)
