Renegade Tours Mashup
4/27/2014---Museums usually have tour guides who are trained to teach visitors about art. But who’s to say that museums are the only ones who can tell you about art? We wanted to hear directly from our budding museum visitors, so for our Close Encounters: Renegade Tours program, we invited kids to explore the Armand Hammer Collection and give a renegade tour of their favorite work of art with the help of artist Amanda Yates Garcia. This program is part of the Hammer Museum’s Close Encounters series, in which artists encourage families to look closely at art, experiment, and create together. Hammer Kids is made possible through the generosity of the Anthony & Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation.

Kids can be docents, too! Share your own ideas about a work of art through writing, close-looking, and role-playing activities led by artist and educator Amanda Yates Garcia. This program is inspired by Andrea Fraser’s Museum Highlights: A Gallery Talk on view in Take It or Leave It, and is part of the Hammer Museum’s new Close Encounters series, in which artists encourage families to look closely at art, experiment, and create together.

Developed with the whole family in mind, these lively and illuminating encounters with art are for adults and kids ages 5 and up. Families are invited to look closely at works of art in the galleries and then create art inspired by what they see.

Hammer Kids is made possible through the generosity of the Anthony & Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation.

Hammer Kids has also received funding from supporters and friends of the Hammer Museum’s Kids’ Art Museum Project (K.A.M.P.), an annual family fundraiser.
