    LA Art Book Fair Artists: Christopher Kardambikis

    The Hammer is pleased to be a cultural co-sponsor for the fourth consecutive year of Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair on Thursday, February 11 through Sunday, February 14, 2016 at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. Sara Beattie, Brooke Berlin and Lauren Molina from the Museum Store will be on hand at the Hammer’s booth with zines, artist books and editions, rare and out-of-print books, and other signature Hammer items. Each year we post tips and picks from Darin Klein, the Hammer’s public programs associate.

    Hunan is a province in southern China (about 900 miles south of Beijing) well known for its natural beauty, spicy food, and the birthplace of Chairman Mao. Actually, huge portraits of Mao still hang prominently in the foyers of many of the homes in China, especially in the countryside where things have changed very slowly over the years.

    Hammer Highlights 2015: Exhibition Publications

    The Hammer Museum has a long publication history and this past year was particularly active. Since 1990 we have published over 50 catalogues, with the most recent six produced between September 2014 and October 2015. Many people ask us how we determine when to publish a book. Our curatorial team considers a number of factors, such as scope of the exhibition, availability of current scholarship on the subject, exhibition budget and schedule.

    On View at the Café: Victoria Fu

    Interested in the relationship of the body to technology, Victoria Fu creates videos that evoke a sense of tactility. A disembodied hand peels back and paints over layers of imagery that seem unending. In filming her videos, Fu digitally composites surfaces and objects from the studio with virtual spaces, turning a solid body into a portal.
