Represent Your Country at the People's United Nations

– By Carolina Guillermet

The Hammer Museum and Mexican artist Pedro Reyes are reconvening the United Nations—using regular people rather than diplomats, and theater games, group therapy techniques, and humor rather than diplomacy. With 195 nation states represented, this is a great opportunity to meet an extraordinary range of people, laugh a lot, and learn about global issues and alternative conflict-resolution and social change techniques.

WHEN: Saturday May 2 – Sunday May 3, 10:00AM-5:00PM

WHERE: Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90024

WHO: People from cultural fields and many other disciplines who want to apply their imaginations to global issues. Although you should be connected by birth or family ties to the country you represent, you do NOT have to prepare anything or be an expert on the affairs of your country. We simply ask that you bring your sense of humor!

WILL I BE PAID? No. Delegates join us as unpaid volunteers, however the artist is creating a limited edition signed print for all participants and the Museum will provide lunches and libations.

HOW TO SIGN UP: Please contact our pUN curatorial project consultant Carolina Guillermet at pUN@hammer.ucla.edu.

VISITING THE EVENT: The public is invited to observe the delegates over the course of the two day event and to participate in hourly guided tours of the assembly and exhibition.

This project was first installed at the Queens Museum, New York
