Tours

Group tours at the Hammer Museum are led by UCLA student educators. Groups may choose between viewing special exhibitions, the Armand Hammer Collection, and the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden. Tours are conducted during Museum hours and last approximately 45 minutes. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

The Hammer Museum offers three types of tours to accommodate the specific needs of your group:

60 minutes: Student Educators lead discussion-based tours through one exhibition. Each tour last 45-60 minutes and is tailored appropriately based on the group’s type and age.

20/20: A less formal tour, the 20/20 tour begins with a 20-minute gallery talk followed by 20+ minutes of self-guided viewing. Visitors view the art at their own pace, while the Student Educator is on-hand to field questions and discuss works of art with members of the group.

Self-Guided Tours: Reservations are also required for groups of 10 people or more. Please contact the Academic Programs Department at least one week prior to your visit at 310-443-7041.

Scheduling a tour
To schedule a tour, please fill out our online tour request form, or call the Academic Programs department at 310-443-7041 for assistance. Reservations require three weeks’ notice and groups must consist of no less than 10 persons.

Lecturing in the galleries for groups over 10 must be prearranged, with the exception of UCLA faculty. Please call Hammer Tours at 310-443-7041 or email tours@hammer.ucla.edu for more information.

Tour Costs
All adult tours over 10 guests require a non-refundable deposit that includes the cost of admission. Rates are determined by group size and begin at $100 for up to 20 people, and an additional $100 per additional 10 guests. The Hammer Museum cannot guarantee a tour reservation until the deposit is received.

Tours for Student Groups & Educational Nonprofit Organizations
All school groups and educational nonprofit organizations are admitted free of charge. We require that the student/chaperone ratio for school groups be as follows: 5:1 for grades K-1; 6:1 for grades 2-5; 10:1 for grades 6-9; and 12:1 for grades 10-12.
