Flux Screening Series
Flux and the Hammer present an evening of innovative short films, music videos, filmmaker presentations and the most interesting visual work from around the globe.
The Flux Screening summer event will feature the World Premiere of N.A.S.A.: The Spirit of Apollo, an intimate look behind the making of N.A.S.A.’s globetrotting debut album. The documentary traces the ongoing creative collaboration between two lifelong music aficionados, Sam Spiegel and DJ Zegon and their musical heroes. The N.A.S.A. project is especially noteworthy for its eclectic musical pairings: New Waver David Byrne together with rapper Chuck D (”Money”); M.I.A. and Santigold with Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (”Whachadoin?”); and Kanye West and Lykke Li (”Gifted”). Ol’ Dirty Bastard makes a posthumous appearance along with other Wu-Tang Clan members RZA, Method Man and Ghostface Killah. John Frusciante (former guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Tom Waits also appear. The film also includes visual collaborations between artists Shepard Fairey, Sage Vaughan, Marcel Dzama, The Date Farmers and animators including Syd Garon, Logan, Three Legged Legs, Splunny, Lorenzo Fonda.
Also premiering at the event is the Los Angeles theatrical release of the Beastie Boys + Santigold music video “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” directed by Spike Jonze.
