DESCRIPTION:Before each of the three major wild Up concerts the Hammer will
host open rehearsals. This provides visitors with the unique opportunity
to see how a concert program comes together\, the mystery of the orchestra
and the dynamics of the members unveiled. The rehearsals are a profound p
art of the process - this is where all the work takes place. During rehear
sals the music is raw\, incomplete and individual elements are worked thro
ugh as well as issues like pitch\, style\, color. Drop in to see all the p
arts fall into place.\n\n\n\nFor BACH-BQ wild Up tackles a Brandenburg Cyc
le: taking something old and making it new. The group offers a vision of
the future of classical music with six recomposed Brandenburg Concerti. Th
ere will be virtuosic strings and screaming piccolo trumpets\, baritone sa
xophones and an electric bassoon. Join us for a festive\, end of summer co
ncert in the courtyard.\n\n\n&#160\;\n\n\nABOUT THE RESIDENCY\nwild Up is
a 24-member experimental classical/contemporary ensemble comprised of Los
Angeles musicians committed to creating visceral\, thought-provoking happe
nings. By mixing traditional classical works\, challenging new composition
s and indie music\, their insightful programming looks to change the exper
ience of the classical concert and reconceptualize the role of an orchestr
a in its community. Throughout a performance wild Up creates an active exp
erience for the audience by sharing the contextual and inspirational impet
us for their program. The ensemble practices a philosophy of radical-inclu
sionism: audience members are invited to experience concerts the way that
they see fit\, and absolutely no music is off limits.\n\n\n\nWhen visiting
the museum from July through December visitors will encounter vibrant per
formances\, projects\, and interactive installations. Stop by to find out
what’s possible when an orchestra takes on a museum.\n\n\n&#160\;\n\n\nA
BOUT PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT\nPart of the curatorial department\, the Public Eng
agement program collaborates with artists to develop and present works tha
t create an exchange among the artist\, the museum\, and the visitor. Enac
ted both inside and outside the galleries\, Public Engagement projects ran
ge from re-envisioned security guard uniforms to library and orchestra res
idencies. Public Engagement was established in 2009 thanks to a James Irvi
ne Foundation Arts Innovation Fund grant.\n\n
