DESCRIPTION:Before each of the three major wild Up concerts the Hammer will
host open rehearsals. This provides visitors with the unique opportunity
to see how a concert program comes together\, the mystery of the orchestra
and the dynamics of the members unveiled. The rehearsals are a profound
part of the process - this is where all the work takes place. During rehe
arsals the music is raw\, incomplete and individual elements are worked th
rough as well as issues like pitch\, style\, color. Drop in to see all the
parts fall into place.\n\n\n\nWEST will be the first of three large-scale
concerts. WEST explores the west coast’s vast sonic landscape through c
lassical music\, jazz\, noise\, indie-rock\, and the avant garde. The prog
ram includes works by Ennio Morricone\, Ornette Coleman\, Eric Dolphy\, Be
ach Boys\, Katy Perry\, Magnetic Fields\, Harold Budd\, Silvestre Revuelta
s\, Stephen Hartke\, Arnold Schoenberg and new compositions by wild Up art
 ists.\n\n\n\nwild Up is a 24-member experimental classical/contemporary en
semble comprised of Los Angeles musicians committed to creating visceral\,
thought-provoking happenings. By mixing traditional classical works\, cha
llenging new compositions and indie music\, their insightful programming l
ooks to change the experience of the classical concert and reconceptualize
the role of an orchestra in its community. Throughout a performance wild
Up creates an active experience for the audience by sharing the contextual
and inspirational impetus for their program. The ensemble practices a phi
losophy of radical-inclusionism: audience members are invited to experienc
e concerts the way that they see fit\, and absolutely no music is off limi
ts.\n\n\n\nWhen visiting the museum from July through December visitors wi
ll encounter vibrant performances\, projects\, and interactive installatio
ns. Stop by to find out what’s possible when an orchestra takes on a mus
eum.\n\n\n\n Learn more about the residency.\n\n\n\nALL HAMMER PUBLIC PROG
RAMS ARE FREE. Seating is on a first come\, first served basis. Hammer mem
bers receive priority seating\, subject to availability. Reservations not
accepted\, RSVPs not required. \n\n\n\nParking is available under the muse
um for $3 for 3 hours. \n\n\n\nThe Hammer Museum’s Public Engagement pro
gram seeks to create a new kind of interactive museum: an artist-driven vi
sitor engagement program that encourages contact among visitors\, artists\
, and Museum staff\, and activates spaces in imaginative ways. \n\n\n\nThe
Hammer Museum’s Public Engagement Program is supported through a major
grant from the James Irvine Foundation. Additional Support is provided by
 The Shifting Foundation.\n\n
