The 2008 elections have revealed, and perhaps exacerbated, deep ideological divides among the American people. Can American’s regroup and become “one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all?” Cultural icon Gloria Steinem and Joe Bageant, chronicler of the rural working class, will talk about practical ways to heal the Red/Blue divide. Steinem, founder of Ms. magazine, the Women’s Action Alliance, the National Women’s Political Caucus, and the Women’s Media Center, is internationally renowned for her work on civil rights issues. Her books include Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions, Moving Beyond Words, and Revolution from Within, and she is currently at work on Road to the Heart: America As if Everyone Mattered. Bageant is the author of the critically acclaimed book Deer Hunting with Jesus: Dispatches from America’s Class War, and writes an online column that has made him a cult hero among journalists and political junkies.
